PM Modi announces ex-gratia after eight, including three children, killed in Agar Malwa car mishap

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the death of eight people, including three children, after a car fell into a swollen drain in Madhya Pradesh’s Agar Malwa district in the early hours of the day, and announced ex-gratia assistance for the victims’ families and those injured in the mishap.
According to reports quoting police officials, the accident occurred when the car plunged into the rain-swollen drain.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi described the incident as “extremely painful” and extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. “The mishap in Agar Malwa, Madhya Pradesh, is extremely painful. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones,” the Prime Minister said.
Announcing financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), Modi said the next of kin of each deceased would receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh, while those injured would be provided Rs 50,000. “An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000,” he said.
The announcement came as authorities dealt with the aftermath of the accident in Agar Malwa district. The mishap has highlighted the dangers posed by swollen water channels during periods of heavy rainfall. UNI SKA AAB
