PM Modi announces PMNRF aid after nine killed in Greater Noida bus fire

New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the deaths of at least nine people in a devastating bus fire in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased as well as those injured in the tragedy.
The Prime Minister said the next of kin of each person who died would receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF), while those injured would be provided Rs 50,000.
Expressing his distress over the incident, Modi extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those undergoing treatment.
"Distressed to hear about the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy on a bus in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured," Modi said in a post on X shared by the Prime Minister's Office.
"An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000," he added.
The tragedy took place late on Wednesday night when a private bus caught fire while travelling near Jewar Airport on the Yamuna Expressway. At least nine passengers were trapped in the burning vehicle and died, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals.
Police and other authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain how the fire started and why the passengers were unable to escape the vehicle. Officials are also gathering details about the victims and assessing the condition of those injured.
The incident has brought renewed attention to passenger safety and emergency arrangements on private buses, particularly on high-speed corridors such as the Yamuna Expressway, where a sudden vehicle fire can rapidly turn into a life-threatening emergency.
