PM Modi hails Indian contingent as Asian Games 2026 draw to close

New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated the Indian contingent at the Asian Games 2026, praising the athletes for representing the country with determination, passion and a strong sporting spirit as the continental multi-sport event drew to a close.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi lauded the entire Indian contingent and congratulated the medal winners for their performances, saying their achievements had brought “immense joy to the nation”.
“As the Asian Games 2026 draw to a close, my compliments to every member of the Indian contingent for representing our nation with determination, passion and remarkable sporting spirit,” Modi said.
“Congratulations to all our medal winners, whose performances have brought immense joy to the nation,” he added.
The Prime Minister also expressed hope that the athletes’ achievements would inspire a new generation of sportspersons and help strengthen sporting activity at the grassroots level.
“May these Games inspire even greater achievements in the years ahead. May they contribute to strengthening sports at the grassroots too,” Modi noted.
The Asian Games remain one of the most significant platforms for Indian athletes to compete at the continental level, providing an important benchmark ahead of global sporting competitions. India’s performances at the Games have also formed part of the country’s wider efforts to build a stronger sporting ecosystem through improved infrastructure, talent identification and greater opportunities for young athletes.
Modi’s message came as the Indian contingent concluded its campaign at the Games, with the country’s medal winners receiving recognition for their performances. His remarks also highlighted the need to ensure that success at major international competitions translates into wider participation, stronger grassroots programmes and the emergence of the next generation of Indian sporting talent.
