PM Modi reviews Rs 16,000-crore projects, pushes faster execution & outcome-based Governance

New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for faster execution of infrastructure projects, stronger Centre-State coordination and greater administrative accountability while reviewing projects worth more than Rs 16,000 crore across 31 States and union Territories at the 54th PRAGATI meeting.
Chairing the meeting at Seva Teerth, Modi reviewed projects relating to the Railways, PM Ekta Malls and Bulk Drug Parks, emphasising the need to remove implementation bottlenecks, improve coordination among agencies and ensure that projects are completed within stipulated timelines.
PRAGATI, or Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, is an information and communications technology-enabled platform that brings the Central and State Governments together to review major projects and welfare schemes, resolve administrative hurdles and improve public service delivery.
During the review of the redevelopment of Ahmedabad railway station, the Prime Minister called for expediting the redevelopment of major railway stations across the country to enhance passenger convenience and ease of travel.
He stressed that modernised stations should function as multimodal transport hubs, with seamless connectivity to metro services and other transport networks.
Reviewing the progress of Bulk Drug Parks in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Modi emphasised the need to prioritise domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and other essential pharmaceutical inputs.
Strengthening domestic manufacturing, he underlined, was crucial to advancing self-reliance and reducing dependence on external sources for critical pharmaceutical materials.
On PM Ekta Malls, the Prime Minister highlighted their potential to provide wider markets for indigenous products, strengthen the livelihoods of artisans and help local enterprises expand.
He called for integrating the malls with tourism and local businesses to generate greater demand for traditional and locally manufactured goods.
Such demand, he noted, could create employment opportunities across rural production, packaging, storage and transportation.
Modi also asked Chief Secretaries to review the progress of the malls regularly and ensure their timely completion, with particular attention to making the facilities commercially viable and creating sustainable opportunities for local producers and traditional artisans.
Turning to welfare delivery, the Prime Minister directed Chief Secretaries to review the implementation of government schemes with District Magistrates every month, identify gaps and ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive assistance without delay.
He stressed that governance should be assessed by outcomes rather than expenditure, with public funds translating into tangible improvements in people's lives.
Referring to the Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks programmes, Modi underscored the importance of convergence among government schemes, regular monitoring and accountability at the local level to accelerate development in underserved areas.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, sustained efforts to strengthen governance and improve welfare delivery had helped nearly 25 crore people move out of multidimensional poverty.
The Prime Minister called on the concerned ministries and State governments to resolve bottlenecks in mission mode, strengthen Centre-State coordination and improve cooperation among implementing agencies.
He emphasised the need for close monitoring at the highest administrative levels and a proactive work culture in which officials take greater ownership of their responsibilities.
He also stressed the importance of anticipating implementation challenges rather than waiting for them to disrupt progress, taking timely decisions and fixing clear accountability for completing projects according to schedule.
The 54th PRAGATI meeting brought infrastructure development, pharmaceutical self-reliance, promotion of local enterprises and effective welfare delivery under a common governance priority: faster implementation, coordinated action and measurable results on the ground.
