PM Modi to address women and child development summit, focus on nutrition, child protection and women’s empowerment

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the valedictory session of the Departmental Summit on Women and Child Development at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday, October 9, underscoring the government’s focus on strengthening centre-state coordination to improve the delivery of welfare, protection and empowerment programmes for women and children.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi will participate in the concluding session of the two-day summit at around 4.30 pm.
The summit, being held on October 8 and 9, has brought together political leaders and senior officials responsible for women and child development from across the States to deliberate on sectoral priorities, share experiences and evolve coordinated strategies for improving implementation.
The summit is the second in a series of Departmental Summits envisaged by the Prime Minister as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen cooperative federalism, foster collective ownership of national priorities and accelerate outcomes through closer coordination between the Centre and the States.
The deliberations are focused on four broad areas — reimagining Anganwadi Centres to strengthen nutrition and early education; improving protection systems for vulnerable children; ensuring women’s safety through effective implementation of institutional and legislative mechanisms; and enhancing women’s empowerment by improving the effectiveness and outcomes of key government schemes.
A major focus is on transforming Anganwadi Centres into more effective platforms for early childhood care, nutrition and foundational learning. The centres play an important role in delivering services to children and mothers, and the summit is expected to examine ways of improving their functioning and making services more responsive to the needs of beneficiaries.
Child protection is another central component of the discussions, with participants examining measures to strengthen systems for children vulnerable to abuse, neglect, exploitation and other forms of adversity. Officials from the Centre and the States are expected to share field-level experiences, discuss implementation challenges and explore ways of improving protection, rehabilitation and support services.
Women’s safety and empowerment have also been accorded prominent attention. The deliberations are aimed at ensuring more effective implementation of institutional and legislative mechanisms for women’s safety while improving the reach, effectiveness and outcomes of government schemes designed to expand opportunities and provide support to women.
The Departmental Summit format is intended to provide a common platform for the union and State Governments to jointly assess sectoral priorities, exchange best practices and identify bottlenecks that impede effective implementation. The participants are also expected to work towards time-bound actions and measurable outcomes to improve governance and service delivery.
Modi’s participation in the concluding session is expected to underline the government’s emphasis on cooperative federalism in translating national policy objectives into tangible outcomes at the grassroots level.
His address is likely to stress the need for sustained coordination among different levels of government so that programmes covering nutrition, early childhood development, child protection, women’s safety and empowerment result in visible and measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.
