Police detain 2 for hoisting foreign flags in Balhama Srinagar

Srinagar, June 23 (UNI) Police have detained two individuals for allegedly hoisting foreign flags in the Balhama area on the outskirts of Srinagar during night hours, in what authorities suspect was an attempt to disrupt public peace and order, an official said on Monday.
Police said acting on credible inputs, including visual evidence indicating the installation of United States and Israel flags, Srinagar Police launched a prompt investigation using various techniques and ground-level verification.
“During the course of investigation, 6–7 suspects were identified and questioned. Sustained interrogation led to the confirmation of involvement of three individuals,” a police statement said.
The accused were identified as Mohsin Ali Dar, Bilal Ahmad Dar and Amir Ali Dar - all residents of Balhama.
“Two of the accused have been detained, while strenuous efforts are underway to apprehend the third,” police said.
They said the act is being seen as a deliberate attempt to provoke public sentiment, disturb communal harmony, and propagate anti-social narratives.
“Legal action under relevant provisions of law has been initiated,” police said. UNI MJR SSP
