Police nabs drug peddlers with heroin in Jammu

Jammu, June 20 (UNI) Police on Friday arrested three drug peddlers with a contraband of heroin here from General Business Stand area.

The police spokesman said that three notorious drug peddlers were arrested from the Bus Stand area with contraband of 11 grams of heroin and a car in which they were travelling, was also seized.

Acting on specific input, a police team from Police Station Bus Stand led by SHO Inspector Vikas Dogra apprehended the accused persons identified as Chirag Atri, Vinod Kalotra and Amit Kalotra, all residents of Chak Jarala, Bishnah, Jammu.

One of the accused, Chirag Atri, police said is a hardcore,notorious drug peddler who was previously detained under the PIT NDPS Act by Jammu Police in 2024 and was released recently after completion of the detention period.

Despite this, he continued his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, adding he said that two of his properties were also attached by Police Station Bishnah in 2024 as part of legal action under the NDPS Act.

However, police have registered a case under relevant sections and started the investigations.

Jammu Police have urged the public to report any drug-related information to the nearest police station for a safer and drug-free Jammu.

Shimla, June 20 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on the state government for failing to respond to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the state government inaction of not appointing the RERA chairman and extension of Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena’s service. The court directed that the amount be deposited with the High Court Bar Association by June 25.
