Polls in seven civic bodies likely in the last week of November: State Election Commission

Kolkata, Sep 25 (UNI) The West Bengal State Election Commission on Friday said it was working towards holding elections in seven civic bodies, including Kolkata and Howrah, in the last week of November.
After a crucial meeting with the authorities concerned, State Election Commissioner Krishna Gupta said, “The State Election Commission is working towards holding polls at seven civic bodies, including Kolkata and Howrah, between November 28 and 29 and the counting would be taken up on December 2.” The proposed dates are not yet the formal poll schedule.
Gupta during the day held a meeting with the district magistrates and district municipal election officers of the seven poll-bound civic bodies and discussed preparations, including delimitation of wards, reservation of seats and EVMs.
The tentative dates for publication of the notification regarding the polls are likely to be October 27 or 28, SEC sources said.
The seven civic bodies are the Kolkata and Howrah Municipal Corporations, and Bally, Kurseong, Kalimpong, Dhupguri and Haldia municipalities.
The SEC has prepared for polling across around 6,301 booths, with EVMs expected to start reaching the poll-bound districts from next week. UNI TC NST CDS
