Prabhakar questions BRS-BJP ties, cites Kavitha’s letter as proof of secret dealings

Karimnagar (Telangana), May 23 (UNI) In a sharp political attack, Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar raised serious concerns about the alleged nexus between the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing MLC K. Kavitha’s recent letter as confirmation of long-standing public suspicions.
Talking to the media at Karimnagar on Friday, the Minister questioned why BRS party president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), working president K T Rama Rao (KTR), and senior leader T Harish Rao have remained silent on the allegations raised by Kavitha, particularly her remarks questioning the lack of internal democracy and the cozy ties between some Congress and BRS leaders with the BJP.
“Kavitha’s letter validates what the Congress has been alleging for years—that the BRS and BJP have been secretly aligned. She is now asking the same questions we have raised, and it is time for BRS and BJP to answer,” Prabhakar said.
He criticised BRS leadership for sidelining senior party members who have been with the party since 2001, and for failing to confront the BJP on key issues such as Telangana's exclusion from the Union Budget, unfulfilled bifurcation promises, and the Sileru project dispute.
Referring to past elections, Prabhakar accused the BRS of surrendering to the BJP, stating that KCR had a role in the appointment of Kishan Reddy as BJP state president under a political agreement.
“Even in local body elections, there was talk that BRS would support BJP in Hyderabad if nominations were filed,” he added.
He also slammed KTR for allegedly diverting public attention by attacking Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at the behest of the BJP. “This is nothing but a distraction from the Kaleshwaram project failure, for which BRS is accountable,” he said.
On national issues, Prabhakar condemned the Enforcement Directorate’s actions against the National Herald newspaper, calling it "BJP's harassment campaign" against the Gandhi family, whom he hailed as a legacy of national leadership.
Turning to development issues in Karimnagar, the Minister highlighted several Congress-led initiatives, including the establishment of law and engineering colleges at Satavahana University, an integrated school, and steps to relocate a local dump yard. He also announced the construction of a medical and nursing college, Indiramma houses, and double-bedroom housing units in Baddipalli.
“Whether in power or not, we are committed to development. We don't act as pawns in the hands of local legislators. Development is our responsibility,” Prabhakar declared.
He reaffirmed Congress’s tradition of internal democracy and dismissed speculation about Kavitha’s possible links to the Congress party.
