Pratap Simha booked over provocative speech

Mysuru, Sept 20 (UNI) Former Mysuru MP and BJP leader Pratap Simha has found himself on the wrong side of the law, with T Narasipura police registering an FIR against him and others over an alleged provocative speech during a Ganeshotsava procession.
The case stems from the Ganesh Shobhayatra held in T Narasipura on September 18, which had already triggered a controversy over remarks attributed to local police inspector Dhananjay regarding the procession route near a mosque.
Simha, who took part in the procession, had publicly questioned the police officer's remarks and criticised the manner in which the procession was being handled.
Police have now registered a case alleging that Simha and others made provocative remarks, hurt religious sentiments and attempted to promote enmity between communities. The specific sections invoked in the FIR were not immediately available.
The action came a day after a Mysuru Congress delegation approached the district Superintendent of Police, seeking action against Simha and others over alleged provocative speeches and alleged violation of the stipulated time for concluding the procession.
The FIR has added another layer to the simmering row, with the BJP earlier demanding action against Inspector Dhananjay over his reported remarks on the Ganesh procession.
Reacting to the development, BJP MLA Srivatsa said Simha had anticipated the FIR and alleged that the government was targeting BJP leaders.
He defended Simha's remarks, contending that there was nothing provocative in his speech, and said the BJP would face the matter legally.
The police are expected to examine the speeches and video recordings of the procession as part of the investigation before deciding on further action.
