Punjab: CEO briefs political parties on special summary revision of electoral rolls for 2027

Chandigarh, Oct 22 (UNI) Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra today held a meeting with representatives of political parties to brief them on the schedule for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Photo Electoral Rolls, with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date.
The meeting, chaired by Mitra, a senior IAS officer, focused on the forthcoming revision exercise aimed at updating the state's electoral rolls ahead of 2027.
The revision process provides an opportunity for eligible citizens to register as voters, existing electors to seek corrections in their particulars and electoral authorities to update entries in accordance with the prescribed rules.
The January 1 qualifying date will serve as the reference point for determining voter eligibility under the revision programme.
The exercise is also intended to improve the accuracy of electoral records through the inclusion of eligible voters and the correction or deletion of entries wherever warranted under electoral rules.
Representatives of political parties were briefed on the revision schedule as part of the Election Commission's efforts to keep stakeholders informed about the electoral roll updating process.
According to the Election Commission's announced programme, the draft electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on November 12, followed by a claims and objections period until December 11. The final electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on January 4, 2027.
The latest exercise follows the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Punjab earlier this month. The final rolls published on October 12 covered all 117 Assembly constituencies and recorded 2,01,00,727 electors, compared with 1,93,94,435 in the draft rolls.
The revision assumes significance as Punjab is due to hold Assembly elections in 2027. The SSR is an electoral roll updating exercise and does not constitute an announcement of the election schedule.
