Railway minister orders resumption of train stoppages in two halt stations

Kannur, May 29 (UNI) Railways Minister Ashini Vaishnav, has directed the Palakkad Railway Division to strike out their May 27 order cancelling the stoppages of two trains at Chirakkal and Vellarakkad in Kannur district.A railway release said here, "The following train services will resume their stoppages at the Chirakkal (CQL) halt station between Kannur and Valapattanam and Vellarakkad (VEK) halt station between Quilandy and Tikkotti in the Palakkad Division, as per their earlier scheduled timings, with immediate effect.
On May 27, the Palakkad Railway Division said in a press release that two halt stations, Chirakkal and Vellarakkad will be closed for passenger traffic from May 27 in view of the loss of income from the said stations according to the commercial section reports.
Today, the railway release said "The earlier issued Press Release is withdrawn".
BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar had conducted a discussion regarding reviving Chirakkal and Vellarakkad halt stations for public benefit with the Union Railway Minister, a few days back. Following this, the Union Railway Minister decided to restart operation of both halt stations, a letter of information about this was sent by Ashini Vaishnav directly to Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar, today.
The Kannur -Mangalore Central Passenger (56717), Kannur-Cheruvathur passenger (56619) and Mangalore Central- Kannur Passenger (56718) will halt at Chirakkal from May 29 onwards.
The Shoranur - Kannur Memu (66324), Kozhikode-Kannur Passenger (56617), Kannur- Shoranur Passenger (56600) and Kannur-Shoranur Memu (66323) will halt at Vellarakkad from today.
Earlier, BJP district president K Vinod Kumar had given a resolution to Railway Minister Ashini Vaishnav, BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager, requesting the cancellation of the railway order of stoppages of trains in both stations.
The Chirakkal station is a heritage station which was established in 1904 while considering the importance of handloom products exporting and weaving, while Vellarakad station was established about 70 years back, following the special interest of Kerala Gandhi K Kelappan.
Kannur Lok Sabha MP, K Sudhakaran welcomed the Southern Railway order to resume the stoppage of trains at both halt stations. A People action committee was formed under the leadership of K Sudhakaran, MP, K V Sumesh ,MLA ,Kannur Railway Passengers association, DYFI and others demanding to cancel the railway order .UNI AK SSP
