Rain likely in Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab from Oct 6 as weather pattern shifts: IMD

Panchkula, Oct 4 (UNI) Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab are likely to witness a fresh spell of rain from October 6, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting isolated rainfall over the region through October 10 after largely dry conditions.
According to the IMD's All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued at 7:49 a.m. on Sunday, isolated rainfall is likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab from October 6 to 10. The region is expected to remain largely dry on October 4 and 5 before the weather pattern changes.
The forecast comes as temperatures in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab are running above normal. The IMD said minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal by 3.1°C to 5°C at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, and at a few places over Punjab. Minimum temperatures were also 1.6°C to 3°C above normal at some other locations.
Maximum temperatures were 1.6°C to 3°C above normal at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab.
The IMD bulletin does not forecast heavy rain over Haryana or Punjab during the period and does not issue any severe-weather warning for the two states associated with the expected rainfall spell.
However, weather activity is expected to be more pronounced over the adjoining Himalayan region. Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from October 5 to 10.
Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh is expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 6 to 8, followed by fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on October 9 and 10.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, are likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh from October 6 to 8 and Uttarakhand from October 5 to 7.
The changing weather conditions coincide with the continuing withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. The IMD said conditions were likely to become favourable during the next two to three days for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from most parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha, some more parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, and parts of Telangana and north interior Karnataka.
During the 24-hour period preceding the bulletin, rainfall was recorded at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and coastal Karnataka, and at many places over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Kerala-Mahe and Lakshadweep. The rest of the country remained largely dry.
Elsewhere in northwest India, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over west Uttar Pradesh on October 6 and 7, while east Uttar Pradesh could receive similar rainfall from October 5 to 8.
In central India, west Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive isolated to scattered rain from October 6 to 10 and east Madhya Pradesh from October 7 to 10. Chhattisgarh is expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 5 to 10, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, likely on October 6 and 7.
In eastern India, Bihar is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 6 to 10, while Jharkhand could see similar conditions from October 5 to 10. Isolated to scattered rainfall is also forecast over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during October 4-10. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely over parts of Odisha during the period.
Across the northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall during October 4-10, with thunderstorms and lightning possible over parts of the region.
In western India, isolated to scattered rainfall is forecast over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra from October 6 to 10.
More intense rainfall activity is expected over parts of southern India. Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive widespread rainfall during October 4-6 and again on October 9-10, with isolated heavy rainfall during October 4-6.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 4 to 10, with isolated heavy rain during October 4-6. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are also likely during October 4-6.
Coastal Karnataka is likely to receive widespread rainfall on October 4, with isolated heavy rain, followed by isolated to scattered rainfall during October 5-10. South interior Karnataka is expected to receive widespread rainfall on October 5 and 6, with isolated heavy rainfall.
Isolated to scattered rainfall is also forecast over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana during October 4-7, while strong surface winds are likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema during parts of the period.
The IMD said the highest maximum temperature recorded in the country was 41.2°C at Pilani in Rajasthan.
For Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab, the immediate forecast points to largely dry conditions through October 5, followed by a five-day window of isolated rainfall beginning October 6. The current bulletin does not forecast heavy rainfall over Haryana or Punjab.
