Rajnath Singh, Army brass pay tribute to Infantry on Shaurya Diwas

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday saluted the courage and sacrifice of Indian Army infantrymen on Shaurya Diwas, honouring their role in defending the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity from the battlefields of 1947 to the challenging frontiers of today.
“On Shaurya Diwas, I salute the extraordinary courage, valour and sacrifice of the brave Infantrymen of the Indian Army,” Singh said in a post on X.
He said infantrymen had stood firm when the odds were overwhelming and made the supreme sacrifice to protect the nation.
“Their unwavering devotion to duty, remarkable courage and willingness to make the supreme sacrifice represent the finest traditions of our Armed Forces,” the Defence Minister said, adding that the nation would remain grateful for their service and sacrifice.
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the National War Memorial in New Delhi to pay homage to soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the country.
Chief of Defence Staff General R S Rajasubramani, Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, Director General of Infantry Lieutenant General A K Pundir, Colonels of various Infantry regiments and veterans laid wreaths at the memorial, honouring the legacy of courage and sacrifice associated with the Infantry.
The Army said the ceremony reaffirmed the enduring spirit of the Infantry, which continues to inspire generations of soldiers.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid tribute to the Infantry, recalling its contribution to defending the country across generations.
“From the battlefields of 1947 to the most challenging forward posts today, our Infantrymen have held the line, stood their ground and defended every inch of our motherland with unwavering resolve,” Gupta said in a post on X.
“The nation stands proud of its Infantry. Jai Hind!” she added.
Shaurya Diwas is observed on October 27 to commemorate the airlanding of Indian Army troops in Srinagar in 1947, following the tribal invasion of Jammu and Kashmir. The deployment marked a decisive moment in the defence of Srinagar and the effort to repel the invading forces.
The day honours the bravery, dedication and sacrifices of infantry personnel who have served on the frontlines and safeguarded the nation's borders through successive conflicts and security challenges.
