Rashmika Mandanna to portray M.S. Subbulakshmi in upcoming biopic

Chennai, Sep 17 (UNI) The life of legendary Carnatic vocalist and Bharat Ratna recipient M.S. Subbulakshmi is being adapted for the big screen, with Rashmika Mandanna set to portray the celebrated singer.
Actor Kamal Haasan launched the film and gave the clap for the first scene along with Mandanna. The 30-year-old actress will play the role of M.S. Subbulakshmi in the film.
Gowtham Tinnanuri will direct the film, while Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music. Bankrolled by Allu Arvind, Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vas. Apart from the family members of M.S. Subbulakshmi, many personalities from the Carnatic music and film world were present at the event.
Haasan said that M.S. Subbulakshmi united India, especially South India, through her voice. She sang in many languages, including Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada, and brought out the beauty of each language through her music.
The "Nayakan" actor said that M.S. Subbulakshmi has been a great source of inspiration in his life. Listening to her music brings peace and happiness to the mind. He said that M.S. Subbulakshmi was a great woman who instilled confidence in the women of the country.
Tinnanuri said that M.S. Subbulakshmi was not just a great singer, but also a daughter, an artist, and a woman who dreamed big, faced successes and failures, and made many sacrifices. He said the team researched her life for nearly a year and is now trying to bring to the screen a side of her life that remained hidden behind her great achievements.
Mandanna said that playing M.S. Subbulakshmi is a matter of pride and honour for her. She said that she will work with complete dedication to this role and strive to portray her extraordinary life journey with respect on screen.
