Rekha Gupta inaugurates renovated Goa Niwas in Chanakyapuri, calls Delhi a ‘mini India’

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday inaugurated the renovated Goa Niwas in Chanakyapuri, describing the upgraded facility as a reflection of Goa’s rich architectural heritage, cultural identity and traditions.
Highlighting Delhi’s diverse cultural fabric, Gupta said the national capital was a “mini India”, where people from different states live together and celebrate their respective cultures, traditions and festivals.
“Delhi is not merely the administrative capital of the country but also a city that represents the diversity, harmony and unity of India. People from every corner of the country live here, enriching its social fabric through their distinct cultures, festivals and ways of life. Delhi is truly a mini India, where the presence of every state can be felt,” she said.
Congratulating the Goa Government and officials associated with the renovation, the Chief Minister said the revamped building was an example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ and ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’.
The renovated Goa Niwas combines contemporary facilities with Goa’s traditional architectural elements and cultural ethos, offering visitors a glimpse of the coastal state's heritage in the heart of the national capital.
Describing the transformation as impressive and grand, Gupta said special attention had been paid to preserving Goa’s architectural character. She particularly highlighted the decision to name different floors after the state's sacred rivers, saying the initiative connected the building with Goa’s natural and cultural roots.
The Chief Minister said the upgraded facility would benefit people travelling from Goa to Delhi by providing better accommodation at affordable rates. It would also offer residents of the capital an opportunity to experience Goa’s culture, cuisine and traditions.
She suggested that a restaurant showcasing Goa’s distinctive culinary identity be opened at the premises to enable people in Delhi to experience traditional Goan food.
Pointing out that several Goan families had been living in Delhi for years and contributing to the city's development, Gupta said celebrations marking the foundation days of different states and major festivals provided a common platform for promoting India's cultural diversity.
Goa Niwas, which was inaugurated around 16 years ago, has undergone a comprehensive renovation. The upgraded premises feature 21 double bedrooms, an expanded dormitory facility, centralised air-conditioning, a modern dining area and an upgraded modular kitchen.
The building also houses two co-working spaces and a mini conference room to facilitate official engagements, meetings and other work-related activities.
In a distinctive tribute to Goa’s river heritage, the basement has been named Zuari, the ground floor Mhadei and the first floor Kushavati, reflecting the state's geographical and cultural identity.
Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Goa Minister Digambar V. Kamat, along with other dignitaries and senior officials, attended the inauguration ceremony.
