Rekha Gupta unveils Finisher’s Medal for Delhi Half Marathon

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday unveiled the Finisher’s Medal for the 21st Delhi Half Marathon, ahead of the World Athletics Gold Label Race scheduled to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 18.
Thousands of runners from India and abroad are expected to participate in the race, which will take them through the streets of the national capital before they cross the finish line to collect the coveted medal.
Gupta said the event had grown beyond a sporting competition, highlighting its focus on health, fitness, women’s participation and its wider social and charitable impact.
“The Delhi Half Marathon, with a focus on health, fitness, increased participation of women, and its wider socio-economic and charitable impact, has become an important initiative for the National Capital. The enthusiasm and joy of the participants is truly inspiring, and the Delhi Government stands with the event to make this edition even more successful,” she said.
The medal has been crafted from zinc sourced from Zawar Mines in Udaipur, one of the world’s oldest zinc mining sites, and produced by Hindustan Zinc Limited, part of the Vedanta Group.
Delhi Minister of Labour, Employment and Tourism Kapil Mishra said the marathon had become an annual fixture and helped strengthen the city’s tourism profile.
“The Delhi Half Marathon has become an annual calendar event for Delhi, bringing together people from across the country and the world. The Delhi Government and Delhi Tourism are fully committed to promoting such sporting events, which continue to strengthen Delhi’s position as a tourism destination. We look forward to making the 18th October edition a grand success,” Mishra said.
