Rohit Pawar’s X account suspended, NCP (SP) MLA alleges attack on freedom of expression

Pune, Oct 7 (UNI) The suspension of the X account of Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar, who has been at the centre of the ongoing agitation by MPSC aspirants in Pune, has triggered a fresh political controversy, as the legislator has alleged that the move is an attempt to curb freedom of speech and expression.
Pawar, who has been vocal about the grievances of Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants and has repeatedly raised the issue on social media, confirmed that his X account had been suspended. The development comes at a time when his criticism of the government and his support for protesting students have drawn considerable political attention.
Reacting to the suspension, Pawar took to Facebook to put forward his position. He questioned the circumstances surrounding the action against his social-media account and alleged that the government was attempting to silence voices critical of its policies.
The MLA said social media had become an important platform for elected representatives to communicate directly with citizens, particularly students and young people. According to Pawar, restricting access to such a platform amounts to limiting the ability of a public representative to raise issues of public concern.
The suspension assumes significance against the backdrop of the MPSC aspirants' agitation in Pune.
Students have been protesting over various demands related to recruitment examinations, examination schedules and alleged irregularities in the examination process. Pawar has actively supported the students and has sought answers from the state government and the commission on their concerns.
The NCP (SP) legislator has frequently used his social media platforms to highlight the demands of the aspirants and question the government's handling of the issue. His interventions have made him one of the prominent political voices associated with the agitation.
