Rohit's run out turns game, Gill hails India's all-round effort in Auckland win

Auckland, Nov 4 (UNI) India's five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the rain-hit opening ODI was shaped by a crucial moment of brilliance from Rohit Sharma, whose run out changed the momentum of the contest when the hosts were threatening to take control, captain Shubman Gill said on Wednesday.
With Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips building a partnership, Rohit's sharp fielding intervention provided India with the breakthrough they needed, allowing the bowlers to regain control and put the hosts under pressure.
"That run out by Rohit bhai, I think changed the momentum of the game. I think we were very good with the bowling. And I think our fielding was also really good. Overall, I think a very good team performance for us," Gill said after the match.
Gill also credited young pacers Anshul Kamboj and Gurnoor Brar for exploiting the conditions and delivering an impressive bowling performance.
Describing Kamboj as ideally suited to the conditions, Gill said the pacer had the ability to generate seam movement and remain effective with the older ball.
"Anshul is the kind of a bowler, I think he's tailor-made for these kind of conditions, always nippy, trying to seam the ball. And good with the old ball," he said.
Gill said Brar brought a different dimension to the attack with his pace and ability to extract extra bounce, particularly when the pitch offered limited assistance.
"We felt when there's not much happening from the wicket, he (Brar) can create that extra bounce and with his pace and the way both of them bowled tonight was really magnificent to watch," he added.
India's ability to combine sharp fielding with disciplined bowling proved crucial in a match interrupted twice by rain. The visitors subsequently negotiated the revised target to complete a five-wicket victory and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Perth, Nov 4 (UNI) Adam Zampa has made it clear that the three ODIs against England, beginning in Perth on November 13, matter far more than a routine home series.
Australia’s recent 50-over results haven't been promising, and the leg-spinner believes the next few weeks will shape how the side approaches the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027. This year in ODIs, Australia beat Zimbabwe 3-0, but lost to Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa, and Zampa admits the constant changes in personnel have not helped.
