Russian FM says West would never secure victory against Kremlin by using Ukraine as proxy

Moscow, June 29 (UNI) Slamming the West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Sunday that they would never be able to secure a strategic victory over Russia by using Ukraine as a proxy, reports Russia’s state-owned-media TASS.

"We have very close ties in all areas, and they are of particular importance, especially in the current very difficult and radically changed international situation, when we are witnessing an unprecedented confrontation between our country and the collective West, which has decided once again to go to war against us and inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, using the Nazi regime in Kiev as a ram.

“The West has never been able to do this, and it won't work this time. They're probably starting to figure it out," Lavrov said during his meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev.

He added that Moscow is open for honest efforts to resolve the war, but it has to be a practical and realistic one, contrary to the ‘rigged’ approach of some European leaders, Sergey Lavrov said.

"As (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin has said recently, we are ready to defend a just settlement of the Ukrainian crisis”, stating that Moscow will is not open to the “rigged approaches we are being pushed to, I would like to stress again, by some European leaders."

Lavrov went on to berate French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, alleging that both leaders lack common sense and are trying to reestablish France's and Germany's control over Europe.

"We are surprised to listen and look at spells sounded from European capitals. Macron and German Chancellor Merz have recently written a joint article, ‘Europe must arm itself; Russia is the main threat, it wages imperialistic wars, it intruded into Georgia in 2008, into Crimea and Donbass in 2014, into the territory of entire Ukraine in 2022; the goal of Putin is to undermine European security," Lavrov said.

"I believe that these quotes alone are enough for a person who has some understanding of what is happening in Europe and follows events to understand that these people have completely lost common sense and are openly trying to return to the days when France and Germany wanted to conquer Europe, primarily the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union," he noted.
