Samrat greets RPF personnel on Foundation Day

Patna, Sep 20 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday extended greetings to all personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on its Foundation Day and lauded their contribution to ensuring the safety of railway passengers and protecting railway property.
In a message posted on X, Choudhary said the brave RPF personnel remained vigilant at all times to ensure the safety of passengers and safeguard railway property.
He said their dedication and commitment to duty were commendable in keeping the country's railway system safe and running smoothly.
The Chief Minister paid his respects to the RPF personnel for their contribution to national service.
The RPF was established in 1957 under an Act of Parliament to protect railway property. In 1966, the force was empowered to question, arrest and prosecute offenders involved in crimes related to illegal possession of railway property.
Following an amendment to the Railway Protection Force Act by Parliament, the RPF was granted the status of an armed force of the union on September 20, 1985. Since then, September 20 has been observed annually as RPF Foundation Day.
Under the Railway Protection Force Act, 1957, the responsibilities of the force include not only protection of railway property but also the security of passenger areas and passengers. UNI RS SAS
