Scholarships help overcome financial barriers to education: Nitin Waghmode

Pune, Oct 11 ( UNI) Scholarships play a crucial role in ensuring that financial difficulties do not hinder girls' education, said Dr Nitin Waghmode, Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Pune.
He was speaking at a scholarship awarding ceremony organised by the Lila Poonawalla Foundation at the Noorul-Al-Basam Hall, where scholarships were awarded to over 100 postgraduate students and around 50 Science students.
Since 1995, the foundation has supported around 19,000 girls and young women through education, skill development and career opportunities. The number is expected to cross 20,000 by the end of 2026.
Waghmode urged the students to make the most of scholarship opportunities, pursue their aspirations and contribute to society.
Foundation founder and chairperson Lila Poonawalla said the organisation aimed to ensure that no deserving girl’s ambitions were limited by financial constraints or lack of skills. She emphasised the need for practical, experiential skill development to prepare young women for industry and workplace requirements. UNI SP SS
