SDM suspended in Chhattisgarh compensation scam

Raigarh, June 17 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh government suspended Ashok Kumar Marbal, the then Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Tamnar block in Raigarh district, in connection with the Bajarmunda compensation scam on Tuesday.
The scam allegedly involved the distribution of Rs 415 crore instead of Rs 100 crore as compensation.
The state government ordered an investigation into the scam and handed over the case to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

Earlier, the then District Collector of Raigarh, Kartikeya Goyal, had identified seven accused individuals and ordered registration of an FIR against them. However, the FIR is yet to be registered in Gharghoda.
The order of suspension, issued by the under secretary of the General Administration Department, states that Ashok Kumar Marbal, while serving as SDM Gharghoda, displayed gross negligence.

He has been suspended from the post of deputy collector in Sarangarh-Bilaspur with immediate effect and attached to the Raipur Commissioner's office during the suspension period.
