Security and Disaster response mock drill was conducted at NTECL Vallur Thermal Power Plant

Chennai, Sep 29 (UNI) A mega multi-agency security and disaster response mock drill was successfully conducted at NTECL Vallur Thermal Power Project (VTPP) to test and strengthen the defence and emergency preparedness, response capabilities and enhance seamless coordination among various security, disaster management, medical and administrative agencies at the critical power infrastructure facility.
The exercise was spearheaded by the CISF Unit, VTPP Vallur, and featured a complex dual-threat scenario involving a simulated chlorine gas leakage and an armed security threat.
The exercise provided an opportunity to test the preparedness and coordinated response of multiple agencies under a challenging emergency situation, a PIB release said.
The drill focused on key aspects including rapid deployment and establishment of command and control, inter-agency communication and coordination, tactical response to the simulated security threat, containment and management of the hazardous chemical leak, medical triage, casualty evacuation and emergency medical response.
The exercise witnessed active participation from CISF, NDRF, Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force (TNDRF), Tamil Nadu Commando Force, Tamil Nadu Police, NTECL Management, NTECL Hospital and Safety Department, along with other concerned teams.
Following the successful completion of the exercise, the proceedings were debriefed to Ahamad Kaunain Raza, CEO, NTECL, and Bimal Kumar Saha, GM (O&M), NTECL. The exercise was briefed by Ravi Prakash, DC, CISF, and Karthikeyan, DC, Tamil Nadu Commando Force.
The successful conduct of the mega mock drill reaffirmed the importance of multi-agency preparedness, coordinated emergency response and continuous strengthening of safety and security mechanisms for safeguarding critical power infrastructure and ensuring the safety of employees and the surrounding community.
