Security beefed up on Indo-Nepal border after reports of infiltration attempt

Bahraich (UP), May 25 (UNI) Security has been tightened along the Indo-Nepal international border after intelligence reports have revealed an attempt by more than 30 foreign nationals trying to infiltrate into India, a senior officer said here on Sunday.

The officer said that following this information, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been directed to remain on high alert. "Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, these suspicious persons are feared to have reached Nepal," he said.

SSB's 42nd Battalion commander Ganga Singh Udawat said that 35 to 37 Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals have crossed the border from their countries and come to Nepal. "Their plan is to infiltrate into India through the open border, but the security forces are fully prepared to nab them immediately," he said.

He said that the SSB has intensified patrolling and round-the-clock checking operations are being carried out. "The jawans are patrolling the roads, forests and villages near the border on foot and in vehicles," he said.

The Commandant said that only Indian and Nepali nationals are being allowed to enter India from the Nepal border. "With this, an attempt is being made to stop all attempts of infiltration," he said.

The SSB has tightened security to keep the situation under complete control in the districts of Uttar Pradesh bordering Nepal including Bahraich. Security has been strengthened on the 579 km long border with Nepal of Bahraich, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharth Nagar and Maharajganj districts.

Taking initiative to counter this threat, the SSB has increased the number of check posts and special attention is being paid to the identification of suspects so that India's borders can remain safe and the threat of nationwide terrorism can be stopped.
