Senior Journalists’ Association committed to addressing welfare issues: Dr Jaypal Patil

Shirdi, Sep 29 ( UNI) The Senior Journalists’ Association, Maharashtra, is committed to addressing the financial, social and healthcare-related issues faced by senior and retired journalists and non-journalist media employees, state president Dr Jaypal Patil said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the association’s North Maharashtra divisional gathering in Shirdi, Patil said journalists spend their careers highlighting the problems of others but often face financial hardships after retirement. The association aims to support them and provide a platform to raise their concerns, he said.
He said the association has been working to facilitate financial assistance for journalists’ children, skill-development programmes and journalism courses, besides accommodation facilities for journalists in Pune and Mumbai. Discussions were also underway with the government on advertisements for small and medium-sized print and digital media organisations, he added.
Maharashtra secretary Sanjaykumar Joshi said several senior journalists were yet to receive accreditation cards and stressed that eligible retired journalists should also be provided the facility. The association was pursuing issues related to medical assistance, honorarium, travel concessions and financial support, he said.
The association’s membership in Maharashtra has crossed 750 within two months, Joshi added.
During the meeting, Kisanrao Jorvekar was appointed North Maharashtra vice-president, Sunil Gite divisional secretary, Dr Shyamsundar Zhalke Nashik district president, Kishore Kalda Ahilyanagar district president and Sanjay Lad Ahilyanagar district secretary.
The newly appointed office-bearers were felicitated at the gathering, which was attended by senior journalists from Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar. UNI SP AAB
