Mumbai, May 13 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Tuesday fell 180 pts to open at 82,249.60 on profit booking by local operators despite positive global cues.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) declined 60 pts at 24,864.05 pts.
Registering massive gains of over 2900 pts on Monday, the equity market was seen weak in early trade as the BSE Sensex registered an intraday high of 82,384.56 and an intraday low of 82,128.17, respectively.
Selling was seen in IT, utilities, telecommunications and auto stocks that pushed the market weak.
The Nifty registered a day's high at 24,967.85 and a low at 24,864.05 pts.
The mid cap gained 0.09 pc and the small cap by 0.12 pc.
In 30 scrips, 8 advanced while 22 declined.
The losers were Infosys fell by 1.46 pc to Rs 1603; Eternal, by 1.02 pc to Rs 237.40; Kotak Bank, by 0.73 pc to Rs 2130.35; and Tata Steel, by 0.63 pc to Rs 150.60.
The gainers were Sun Pharma by 2.66 pc to Rs 1731.15, IndusInd Bank by 1.31 pc to Rs 799, Bajaj Finance by 0.59 pc to Rs 9070 and Reliance Industries by 0.16 pc to Rs 1438.90.
US market, European market was seen strong. Asian Market was also opened in green, as Taiwan Weighted rose by 1.21 pc and Strait Times by 0.46 pc.
