Mumbai, May 17 (UNI) The BSE Sensex posted huge gains of 2,876.12 points or 3.62 per cent to settle at 82,330.59 during the week ended on Friday driven by easing geopolitical tensions after a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, softening retail and wholesale inflation, amid positive global cues.
The Nifty too rallied 1,011.8 points or 4.21 per cent to settle at 25,019.80.
The Mid cap were also outperformed, as the BSE Mid-Cap climbed 6.87 percent to close at 45,005.84. BSE Small-Cap climbed 9.20 percent to end at 51,045.74.
A see-saw trend was witnessed during the week as on Monday, breaking a two-day losing streak. Sensex, jumped 2,975.43 points to 82,429.90 and Nifty too galloped 916.70 points to 24,924.70 as investor sentiment was lifted as geopolitical tensions eased following a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.
Taking u turn, on Tuesday Sensex tanked 1,281.68 points to 81,148.22. Nifty too dropped 346.35 points to 24,578.35 on profit booking.
Very next day, it was recovered 182.34 points to 81,330.56. Nifty too rose 88.55 points to 24,666.90.
On Thursday it zoomed, 1200.18 points to 82,530.74, a 7-month-high amid a positive turn in global cues and optimism over India-US trade pact.
Investor sentiments were boosted following a media report that US President Donald Trump said India had offered a "no tariffs" trade deal to the United States. Even, Nifty too surged 395.20 points to 25,062.10.
On Friday, the last trading session of the week the equity market went in red as the BSE Sensex closed negative at 82,330.59, sliding 200.15 pts, as investors booked profits following a sharp rally in the previous session. The Nifty too fell 42.30 points to settle at 25,019.80.
Among sectors, the major indices closed in the green zone, while defence, realty, and capital market outperformed. While defence zoomed 17 per cent, capital market added 11.50 per cent, and the realty index climbed 10.85 per cent.
Stock that rose during the week were: Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) by 15.50 per cent, Hero Motocorp by 12.59 per cent, Tata Steel by 10.29 per cent, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories by 6.40 per cent, Godrej Industries jumped 5.48 per cent and Tata Motors rallied 3.13 per cent.
Bharti Airtel declined 1.83 per cent.
