Shanta Kumar hails MoU on Kishau Dam as historic

Dharamshala, Sep 16 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shanta Kumar on Wednesday described the decision to revive the Kishau Dam project as a historic and welcome development for the country.
He said a major project of national importance had remained stalled for decades due to differences among the states concerned.
It was a matter of great satisfaction that, under the chairmanship of union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Chief Ministers of six states -- Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan -- had reached a consensus to take forward the project, said Kumar, who was former union Minister.
Shanta Kumar said the project would entail an expenditure of around Rs 15,000 crore, with 90 per cent of the cost to be borne by the Centre.
As the Kishau Dam is being constructed in Himachal Pradesh, while Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan would contribute Rs 2,000 crore towards Himachal Pradesh's share, he said.
Himachal Pradesh would not have to bear any financial burden, while the state was expected to receive an annual benefit of around Rs 1,200 crore from the power generated by the project after its completion.
He congratulated union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Chief Ministers of the six states for reaching an agreement on the long-pending project.
Shanta Kumar said the completed project would generate 422 MW of electricity and bring substantial benefits to the six participating states.

Panchkula, Sep 16 (UNI) Panchkula Police reunited a two-year-old child with his family within hours after he was found wandering alone in the Sector 21 market area, a police spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The child, a resident of Maheshpur village, had apparently wandered away from his family and reached the market. Local residents spotted him alone and alerted the police.
