Shinde Commissions Tower Memorial for Mentor Dighe in Thane

Thane, June 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced plans for a significant memorial dedicated to his political mentor, the late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe, in the heart of Thane city.
Shinde announced his plans on Thursday evening while inaugurating various municipal projects. The centrepiece, named the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Tower, will be reconstructed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maidan near Talao Pali in old Thane.
The memorial will feature a towering 43-metre structure housing a king-size statue of Dighe. Civic officials confirmed the project, which also includes refurbishment works for the ground, will have an estimated cost of Rs 15 crores and is targeted for completion by April, 2026.
"Anand Dighe and Thane are inseparable," Shinde declared, emphasizing the late leader's indelible contributions to the city's development and his relentless efforts in embedding the Shiv Sena's presence throughout the region. "His legacy cannot be forgotten" he affirmed.
Concurrently, Shinde launched a separate infrastructure initiative: a Rs four crore beautification project for the area lying to the West of the Thane railway station. Designed to enhance pedestrian safety and vehicular flow, this undertaking includes renovating auto rickshaw and taxi stands, upgrading footpaths, installing public information boards, and implementing new zebra crossings and lane markings. Officials stated this project is scheduled for completion in December.
