Shivakumar stresses harmony at Mysuru Dasara as Keralam, Telengana CMs attend celebrations

Mysuru, Oct 21 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday called for harmony among neighbouring states and inclusive development, as Keralam Chief Minister VD Satheesan and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy participated in the grand Jamboo Savari procession marking the culmination of the Mysuru Dasara celebrations.
Emphasising Karnataka’s inclusive character, Shivakumar said people from different linguistic and regional backgrounds had made the state their home and stressed the need for peaceful coexistence, particularly in areas bordering neighbouring states.
Speaking to reporters after performing the customary Nandi Dhwaja pooja at the North Gate of Mysuru Palace ahead of the procession, he noted that Telugu-speaking people from Andhra Pradesh, Malayalam-speaking people from Keralam and Tamil-speaking people from Tamil Nadu were among those participating in the festivities.
Referring to the Cauvery river, which flows through several states, Shivakumar said shared resources and common interests called for mutual understanding and peaceful relations.
“We must maintain harmony and live together like brothers and sisters. People living along the borders of our States must also coexist peacefully,” he said.
Highlighting Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan character, Shivakumar said around 45 lakh people from other states had settled in the city for employment and other opportunities. Karnataka welcomed people from across the country and embraced them as its own, he added.
“We welcome everyone with affection and embrace them as our own,” he said.
Shivakumar also underlined the international appeal of Mysuru Dasara, noting that visitors from different parts of the world had arrived to witness the celebrations. Around 13 ambassadors representing various countries were participating in the festivities at the invitation of the State government, he said.
Calling for an end to hatred and injustice, he emphasised that development should reach every household and every citizen should have the opportunity to lead a fulfilling life.
“Hatred must disappear, and harmony must flourish. Development must reach every household,” he said, adding that farmers should prosper and young people should have a bright future.
He said the participation of large numbers of people, particularly the youth, was helping preserve awareness of India’s traditions and cultural values.
Recalling the festival’s royal origins, Shivakumar said Mysuru Dasara had continued after the advent of democracy, preserving the grandeur of the Vijayanagara tradition. He also stressed the need to respect the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru for its contribution to sustaining the celebrations.
Tableaux representing neighbouring States were among the attractions of the procession, highlighting the festival’s cultural and inter-State significance.
