Shivakumar welcomes new Governor , calls for renewed cooperation

Bengaluru, Oct 16 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday described the appointment of Dr Sudha Yadav as the state's second woman Governor as a significant occasion and called for the state government and Raj Bhavan to work together with renewed enthusiasm for public welfare.
Addressing a reception for the new Governor and a farewell function for outgoing Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at the Vidhana Soudha banquet hall here, Shivakumar acknowledged Gehlot's cooperation with the elected government during his five-year tenure, saying he had provided guidance on several issues aimed at improving people's lives.
“Although we may have troubled him on many issues, he supported the government and guided us towards improving the lives of the people,” Shivakumar said, thanking the outgoing Governor for his cooperation.
Welcoming Dr Sudha Yadav, the Chief Minister recalled that Karnataka's first woman Governor was Ramadevi and said the state was now looking forward to working with its second woman Governor.
“We have the opportunity to work with Dr Sudha Yadav. Let us work together with renewed enthusiasm,” he said, noting that her taking oath on her birthday made the occasion particularly special.
Shivakumar invited Dr Sudha Yadav to visit Mysuru during the state's Dasara celebrations, describing the festival as a reflection of Karnataka's rich cultural heritage and traditions.
The Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah had informed him over the telephone about Dr Sudha Yadav's appointment. He had conveyed to them that the state government had accepted most of the decisions taken by the Governor, he added.
Highlighting Karnataka's contribution to the country, Shivakumar said the state continued to play a significant role in economic development, technology and good governance. Officials were also working to strengthen administrative systems at national and international levels, he said.
Referring to Gehlot's tenure, Shivakumar said the outgoing Governor had gained an understanding of Karnataka's governance, culture, traditions and people before handing over charge to Yadav.
The Chief Minister thanked Gehlot for his support and expressed hope that the new Governor's tenure would see continued cooperation between Raj Bhavan and the state government.
