Shooting: India win three medals but miss out on LA28 Olympic quotas

Doha (Qatar), Nov 4 (UNI) India opened their medal account at the ISSF World Championship
2026 here, with one gold and two silver medals but missed out on LA 2028 Olympic quotas in
the men's and women's 10m air rifle events.

The Indian contingent won gold in the men's 50m pistol team event, while Ravinder Singh claimed individual silver in the same discipline. The women's 10m air rifle team also won silver on Tuesday,
according to olympics.com.
Ravinder led India's medal charge in the men's 50m pistol event, combining with Saurabh Chaudhary and Amanpreet Singh to clinch the team gold. Ravinder shot 559-11x, the best score among the three Indians, while Saurabh registered 551-7x and Amanpreet added 549-6x as India topped the team standings with 1659-24x.

The People's Republic of China finished second with 1648-26x while the Republic of Korea took bronze with 1643-26x.

In the individual standings, Ravinder finished two points behind gold medallist Anton Aristarkhov, competing as a neutral athlete, who shot 561-9x. Romania's Luca Joldea claimed bronze with 558-5x.

The men's 50m pistol is not part of the Olympic shooting programme. India added another medal
in the women's 10m air rifle team event, with Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Shambhavi Kshirsagar combining for silver.
The Indian trio aggregated 1894.4 points, finishing behind China, who won gold with 1899.8. Japan took bronze with 1892.6. Elavenil led the Indian effort with 634.2, finishing third in qualification to reach the eight-shooter individual final.
Sonam Maskar finished 19th with 630.5, while Shambhavi Kshirsagar placed 32nd with 629.7. Neither progressed to the individual final.
Elavenil, a two-time Olympian, was India's only finalist across the men's and women's 10m air rifle individual events but could not convert the opportunity into an Olympic quota.
The Indian shooter finished sixth with 167.3 in the women's 10m air rifle final. South Korea's Ban Hyojin, the reigning Olympic champion, won gold with 253.1, ahead of China's Han Jiayu (252.2) and Wang Zifei (231.0).
Han, a Paris 2024 Olympian and former world champion in the event, secured one of the LA28 Olympic quota places for China. Under the LA28 qualification rules, a country can earn only one quota per event at a single ISSF World Championship. China, therefore, could not secure another quota through bronze medallist Wang Zifei. France's Oceanne Muller secured the third quota after placing fourth with 209.5.
A fourth-place finish would have been enough for Elavenil to secure an Olympic quota place for India.
Earlier, all three Indian shooters missed the individual final in the men's 10m air rifle, which also offered three LA 2028 Olympic quota places. Parth Mane was the best-placed Indian, finishing 16th with 630.3 points. Himanshu Dhillon placed 41st with 628.1 while Paarth Makhija finished 61st with 625.2. The ISSF World Championship 2026 will continue until November 14, with 36 LA28 quota places available across the 12 individual Olympic shooting events.
