Simhastha Kumbh Mela to showcase Maharashtra's cultural heritage globally: Deputy CM Eknath Shinde

Mumbai, Oct 31 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said the Simhastha Kumbh Mela would showcase the state's rich cultural heritage and Hindu traditions to the world, leaving a significant imprint on the global cultural landscape.
The state government was prepared to welcome an estimated 12 crore devotees, saints and pilgrims from across the country and abroad during the Kumbh Mela, with development works worth around Rs 35,000 crore underway in the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar region, he said.
Shinde was speaking at a programme organised at Ramteerth in Nashik in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu, following the ceremonial hoisting and worship of the religious flag at Ramteerth and the sacred Kushavarta Teerth in Trimbakeshwar earlier in the day.
The programme also included the Goda Maha Aarti and other religious ceremonies.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Kumbh Mela Minister Girish Mahajan and several religious leaders, saints and public representatives were present.
Shinde described the flag-hoisting ceremony by President Murmu as a historic moment in the history of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, saying it represented recognition of women's power and the contribution of women to India's cultural and spiritual traditions.
He said the simultaneous hoisting of religious flags at Nashik's Ramkund and Trimbakeshwar's Kushavarta Teerth was a significant occasion that reflected the country's spiritual traditions and cultural unity.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's concept of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat', Shinde said the Kumbh Mela would convey the message of unity in diversity to the world.
He also noted that the collective conch-shell blowing ceremony held on the banks of the Godavari during Kojagiri Purnima had been recognised by the Guinness World Records, adding that the Kumbh Mela would further enhance Nashik's international recognition.
Shinde said the estimated 12 crore visitors would require extensive arrangements for accommodation, transport, sanitation and other facilities.
Development projects worth approximately Rs 35,000 crore were being undertaken in the region to meet the requirements of the event.
He added that the infrastructure created for the Kumbh Mela would also benefit residents of Nashik and Trimbakeshwar in the long term and support the region's future development.
Emphasising the economic significance of the event, Shinde said the benefits of the Kumbh Mela should extend beyond religious institutions and pilgrims to local residents and daily wage earners.
It should generate employment opportunities for local people and provide momentum to the regional economy, he said.
He also expressed the hope that the Simhastha Kumbh Mela would set an example in cleanliness, environmental conservation and social harmony, and expressed confidence that the event would be successfully organised with the blessings of Lord Ram and the Godavari.
