Singareni Collieries CMD calls upon young officers to develop understanding of company's future plans

Hyderabad, May 20 (UNI) In view of the retirement of senior and experienced officers over the next three years, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N. Balaram, called upon young officers to immediately develop a deep understanding of the company’s financial status, future plans, and business expansion strategies, and to serve as strong support pillars for the future of Singareni.
For the first time in Singareni’s history, the CMD held a video conference with second- and third-level officers—Managers and Deputy General Managers—across the company on Tuesday evening here to inspire and guide them.
About 762 officers from various departments and regions participated in this video conference, which also included the company’s Directors and senior officers from different departments.
Speaking on the occasion, Balaram said that the current coal price of Singareni is much higher than any other coal company in the country. Consequently, consumers are preferring cheaper alternatives, which poses a serious threat. Hence, he emphasised the need to increase productivity and reduce production costs across the organisation, aiming to reduce at least Rs 1,000 per tonne.
He urged young officers to contribute toward this goal.
With some old mines nearing closure, he stated that coal production will begin this year from new blocks—Naini in Odisha, VKOC in Kothagudem, JKOC in Yellandu, and Goleti OC in Bellampalli—enabling an additional production of 20 million tonnes, which would help meet this year’s target of 76 million tonnes.
He also mentioned that SCCL is actively working to acquire coal blocks in other states as well.
However, he clarified that in the future, the company cannot rely solely on coal production for survival, as environmental regulations and depletion of coal reserves are expected to reduce thermal power generation and coal usage within the next 20 years.
To address this, Singareni has decided to enter the critical minerals production sector, and the central government is also offering complete support to producers in this area, providing a strong opportunity for SCCL, he said.
Singareni is also venturing into the production of other minerals, having already appointed agencies for this purpose. If required, joint ventures with other companies will be explored, said the CMD.
The CMD noted that sand production units have already been set up, and plans are underway to produce products from fly ash and carbon dioxide. Proposals are also being prepared to set up a geo-chemical laboratory in the Singareni region.
He informed that the state government is aiming to produce 20,000 MW of solar power, and Singareni should aim for at least 4,000 to 5,000 MW.
The current thermal power generation of 1,200 MW is being increased to 2,000 MW by setting up a new 800 MW plant. Additionally, a 1,600 MW plant is planned in Odisha. With these expansions, Singareni is set to become the largest thermal power producer in the state.
The CMD said that the purpose of organising this meeting was to ensure that young officers who are expected to lead Singareni in the future are fully aware of the company’s expansion strategies and financial position.
During the meeting, senior officials gave detailed presentations through PowerPoint slides, and afterward, young officers from various areas shared their suggestions, advice, and doubts.
The video conference was conducted from Kothagudem and was attended by the CMD, Directors D. Satyanarayana Rao, L.V. Suryanarayana, and K. Venkateswarlu, GM CPP Manohar, Corporate GMs, other department heads, and from the Hyderabad office, Executive Director (Coal Movement) S.D.M. Subhani, GM Marketing N.V. Rajasekhar Rao, and GMs from all areas.
