Singareni, TGGENCO target daily coal supply of 75,500 tonnes to thermal plants

Hyderabad, Sep 29 (UNI) Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and Telangana GENCO have prepared an action plan to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to thermal power plants in the state amid rising electricity demand and dry conditions associated with El Nino.
At a joint coordination meeting held through video conference on Tuesday, officials set a daily coal supply target of 75,500 tonnes, comprising 56,000 tonnes through 14 railway rakes and 19,500 tonnes by road.
The meeting was chaired by Singareni CMD Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti and Telangana GENCO CMD Dr Harish. Senior officials from both organisations reviewed plant-wise coal requirements, supply levels, coal quality, railway rake availability, loading and unloading operations, and transportation issues.
The daily requirements of the Kothagudem, Kakatiya, Bhadradri and Yadadri power plants were reviewed at the meeting.
The plants require 24,000 tonnes, 4,500 tonnes, 15,000 tonnes and 34,000 tonnes of coal, respectively.
For the Yadadri plant, the plan includes transporting 8,000 tonnes daily through two railway rakes from the Naini coal block in Odisha and 36,000 tonnes through six rakes from Singareni’s local mines. Officials said efforts were being made to increase supplies from Naini.
Singareni’s Marketing Department said 15.02 lakh tonnes of coal had been supplied to TGGENCO power plants by road and rail up to September 28, compared with 11.44 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 3.58 lakh tonnes, or around 31 per cent.
TGGENCO officials said electricity demand had risen due to dry conditions associated with El Niño, increasing the need for coal to sustain power generation.
The meeting directed Area General Managers and power plant Chief Engineers to coordinate closely, resolve transportation and supply-related issues, arrange the required railway rakes and expedite loading and unloading.
They were also asked to exchange daily updates through telephone calls and WhatsApp groups.
Both organisations agreed to work together to maintain a continuous supply of quality coal and prevent disruptions to power generation.
Officials said this was the first joint coordination review involving the power plants’ Chief Engineers and the Singareni Area General Managers responsible for coal supplies.
Singareni Directors L V Suryanarayana (Operations) and K Venkateswarlu (Projects and Planning), General Manager (Coordination and Marketing) T Srinivas, TGGENCO Chief Engineers and Singareni Area General Managers attended the meeting.
