Southwest monsoon advances further; onset over Kerala likely in 3–4 days: Met

Amaravati, May 21 (UNI) The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into additional parts of the south Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area, south Bay of Bengal, central Bay of Bengal, and parts of the northeast Bay of Bengal, the Meteorological Centre said on Wednesday.
In its daily weather report, the Centre stated that conditions are likely to become favourable for the onset of the monsoon over Kerala in the next 3 to 4 days.
It also noted that conditions are becoming conducive for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into more parts of the south Arabian Sea, the remaining areas of the Maldives and Comorin region, parts of the Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, as well as more parts of the south and central Bay of Bengal, the north Bay of Bengal, and parts of the Northeastern states during the same period.
Additionally, a trough is currently extending from a cyclonic circulation over the east-central Arabian Sea off the North Karnataka-Goa coasts to Coastal Andhra Pradesh, reaching up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Meanwhile, the upper air cyclonic circulation over central parts of Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Telangana, also up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, has weakened and is now less marked, the report added.
