Supekar removed as Dy IG Prisons of Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Nagpur over Hagawane case

Pune, May 29 (UNI) The Maharashtra home department today relieved Special Inspector General (Prisons) Maharashtra Jalindar Supekar from the additional charge of Deputy Inspector General of Prisons of Nashik, Sambhajinagar and Nagpur, following allegations that he had tried to shield the accused in the Vaishnavi Hagawane dowry harassment-suicide case.
Supekar is an uncle of Vaishnavi’s husband, Shashank.
Social activist Anjali Damania had levelled allegations against Supekar in the Hagawane case.
Supekar has been removed from the additional charge of Deputy Inspector General of Prisons of Nashik, Sambhajinagar, and Nagpur today.
Vaishnavi Hagawane had ended her life on May 16 after allegedly being harassed by her in-laws. In this case, the police have arrested Vaishnavi's husband, brother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law and mother-in-law. Vaishnavi's father-in-law Rajendra Hagawane, who belonged to the NCP (AP), has been expelled from the party.
Meanwhile, Supekar while speaking to the media has denied any connection with the suicide as well as the issue of a pistol license to Hagawane.
