T'gana: DRI seizes 4 elephant tusks, apprehends 3 in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Oct 1 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad, has seized four elephant tusks weighing around 17 kg, along with intricately carved ivory articles, and apprehended three persons allegedly involved in their illegal sale.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers laid a trap and intercepted the accused while a sale transaction involving the elephant tusks and ivory articles was underway, the agency said in a release here today.
The four tusks and carved ivory articles, described as trophies, were seized under the relevant provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
Trade in elephant ivory and articles made from it is prohibited under the Act.
The DRI has been conducting intelligence-based operations across the country to combat wildlife crime, targeting the illegal trafficking and trade of protected species and articles derived from them.
The latest operation reflects the agency's continued efforts to support wildlife conservation and curb organised wildlife trafficking.
