T'gana: Govt sanctions Rs 88.50 crore for BC self-respect buildings

Hyderabad, Nov 5 (UNI) The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 88.50 crore to build self-respect buildings (Atma Gaurava Bhavanams) for 38 Backwards Class (BC) caste associations, with a target of completing the projects within one year.
Minister for BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar today handed over the Government Orders (GOs) to representatives of the respective associations at an event held at the Minister's Quarters. He said HMDA had resolved administrative and technical hurdles, and the sites were now ready for construction.
The Minister urged the associations to lay foundation stones during the auspicious Kartika month and begin work without delay. He said a single-window system would be introduced for construction approvals, while the BC Welfare Department would review progress every month. He also assured that there was no truth in rumours about the government reclaiming the allotted lands and warned that associations would be held accountable for delays.
He said the buildings should serve as centres for student accommodation, libraries, skill development and community activities. Government Advisor V. Hanumantha Rao called for unity among BC communities and suggested identifying five acres near Osmania University in Amberpet for a common BC Bhavan with a library and auditorium.
BC Sangham national president Jajula Srinivas Goud thanked the government and said budget sanctions had been issued for facilities covering 76 groups, including 40 BC associations and 36 nomadic tribes. He also urged the government to allot five acres for a common BC Bhavan in Hyderabad.
