Maha CM proposes setting up bone marrow transplant unit at AIIMS Nagpur

Mumbai, June 2 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday proposed setting up a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at AIIMS Nagpur to provide immediate treatment to sickle cell and thymoma patients in Vidarbha and reduce their dependence on Mumbai for treatment.Responding positively to the concept, NTPC has provided financial assistance for this unit.A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed in this regard. Under this agreement, NTPC will provide financial assistance to AIIMS Nagpur under its CSR Fund. This assistance will be used to set up a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit and treat needy patients. The centre will benefit the people of Vidarbha, especially children.The prevalence of sickle cell disease and other genetic diseases is high in Central India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the country''s national goal is to eradicate these diseases.
