Telangana BJP credits Modi government’s welfare schemes for women’s empowerment

Hyderabad, Oct 16 (UNI) BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao on Friday said welfare programmes launched by the Narendra Modi-led NDA government had benefited crores of women across the country, while accusing the Congress government in Telangana of failing to ensure women’s safety.
Addressing the BJP Mahila Morcha state executive meeting here, attended by its national president and MP Roop Kumari Choudhary, Rao urged party women leaders to take the Centre’s welfare schemes to every household.
He cited schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana and Shakti Sadan as initiatives aimed at improving women’s financial inclusion, livelihoods and welfare.
He also accused the Congress, BRS and other INDIA bloc parties of obstructing women’s reservation efforts, despite the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam providing for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
Rao alleged that the Congress and BRS had adopted an opposing stance on women’s reservation and criticised the Congress government over the reported increase in crimes against women in Telangana.
Citing figures presented at the meeting, he said around 20,000 cases were registered in 2024 and approximately 21,000 in 2025, and demanded that the state government take responsibility and strengthen measures to protect women.
He accused the present government of continuing what he described as the previous BRS government’s neglect of women’s safety and called on Mahila Morcha workers to campaign against crimes against women while creating awareness about central welfare schemes.
Roop Kumari said the Modi government had expanded access to housing, sanitation, drinking water and financial services through schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission and Jan Dhan Yojana.
She also highlighted the Ujjwala Yojana, women’s self-help groups and initiatives such as Lakhpati Didi and Drone Didi, saying these programmes were intended to improve women’s economic participation and entrepreneurship.
She ccused opposition parties of adopting double standards on women’s rights and said the BJP Mahila Morcha would stand by women seeking justice.
She expressed confidence in the party’s women workers in Telangana and said they would play an important role in expanding the BJP’s political presence in the state.
BJP Mahila Morcha Telangana in-charge Nalini, state president Dr. Mekala Shilpa Reddy, state office-bearers, executive committee members and other leaders attended the meeting.
