Telangana Cabinet approves two pending DAs for employees, 5,800 MW green power tenders

Hyderabad, Oct 1 (UNI) The Telangana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has approved the release of two pending Dearness Allowance (DA) instalments to government employees, besides taking a series of decisions on power, El Niño preparedness, irrigation, land issues and paddy procurement.
Speaking to the media at the Secretariat on Thursday night, Revenue and I&PR Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the two DA instalments pending since 2024 would impose an additional annual burden of around Rs 2,500 crore on the State exchequer.
The Cabinet also took note of the impact of El Niño conditions, including rainfall deficit, drinking water concerns, crop conditions and an unprecedented rise in power consumption. Ponguleti said the State recorded an all-time peak power demand of 19,892 MW, while the average consumption was around 15,000 MW.
With the average rainfall deficit standing at 17 per cent, the Cabinet decided to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to assess the situation and prepare a mitigation plan. The government will subsequently consult political parties, experts, scientists and intellectuals before making a representation to the Centre seeking assistance, particularly for the power sector.
To meet future power requirements, the Cabinet approved transparent tenders for 5,800 MW of green power capacity, including solar and wind, and another 2,000 MW of battery storage capacity, following Central government norms.
The Cabinet also sanctioned around Rs 650 crore for the first phase of the integrated fruit market at Koheda in Ranga Reddy district.
It approved pending works under the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Project covering an ayacut of around 14,000–15,000 acres and decided to cancel contracts for about 10 long-pending projects and invite fresh tenders where companies involved had become non-functional or entered NCLT proceedings.
Other decisions included approval of a digital media advertising policy, appointment of four Grade-I Group-I officers at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi to pursue State-related issues with the Centre, and preparation of a comprehensive proposal on 22A lands, including pending VLC applications and lands on the prohibited list despite receiving layout or building permissions.
The Cabinet also directed officials to establish paddy procurement centres at the earliest ahead of the upcoming procurement season.
