Telangana CM Revanth Reddy directs mandatory use of treated water from Nov 1

Hyderabad, Oct 28 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure the effective utilisation of treated wastewater from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for non-potable purposes across Hyderabad and other areas, with the measures to come into effect from November 1.
During a review meeting on STPs and treated water utilisation at the MCRHRD, the Chief Minister stressed that there should be no compromise on water quality and called for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve plant operations. He directed officials to appoint a special officer for each plant, integrate all STPs with a Command and Control Centre and ensure monitoring by HYDRAA.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to use treated water for landscaping and road cleaning along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), in public parks, and at the Secretariat and Chief Minister’s Office. He also called for extending the initiative to the Railway Department, Metro Rail, government offices and data centres, making treated water mandatory for all non-drinking purposes in government establishments.
He directed officials to track treated-water tankers, launch public awareness campaigns and establish a toll-free number for enquiries and supply requests. He also called for incorporating mandatory treated-water usage requirements into the building permission approval process, encouraging private STPs and exploring solar power options for treatment plants.
Emphasising the need to conserve drinking water for future requirements, Revanth Reddy directed officials to continuously monitor freshwater supplies and take proactive measures to prevent shortages. He warned officials against negligence and stressed the need for effective implementation of the directives.
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, CMO Secretary Manik Raj, Director of School Education Naveen Nicholas and others attended the meeting, according to an official statement.
