Telangana Minister Sridhar Babu seeks Centre’s intervention on idle CPSU lands

New Delhi/Hyderabad, June 25 (UNI) Telangana IT, Industries and Commerce Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu today met Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Padma Yesso Naik and later Union Heavy Industries Minister Kumaraswamy in New Delhi, urging the central government to intervene in resolving long-pending land issues related to Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in Telangana.
During the meeting, Minister Sridhar Babu explained that in the 1960s, the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government had allotted vast tracts of land around Hyderabad and other parts of the state to various CPSUs at subsidised rates with the aim of promoting industrial growth and generating employment.
However, many of these undertakings have either shut down operations or ceased production over time. As a result, large areas of land under their possession are lying idle and unutilised. The minister also pointed out that some of these institutions are reportedly attempting to repurpose the lands for commercial use, which could adversely impact the interests of the state.
He further expressed concern that the non-utilisation of these lands, coupled with the absence of any alternative investment or development plans, is emerging as a major obstacle to the state’s progress. Transferring these lands to private entities without proper compensation or public benefit would result in significant losses to Telangana, he added.
Minister Sridhar Babu appealed to the Union Minister to give special attention to this issue and formulate clear guidelines to ensure that these lands are used effectively for public and industrial purposes. He also sought steps to secure appropriate benefits for the state government in any future decisions regarding the lands.
Union Minister Kumaraswamy responded positively to the request and assured that a meeting would be convened soon to address the concerns raised by the Telangana government.
Senior officials from the Telangana Industries Department were also present during the discussions, an official statement said.
