Congress confident of victory in upcoming local body elections: TPCC Chief

Hyderabad, June 25 (UNI) Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud today asserted that the Congress party is fully prepared for the upcoming local body and Jubilee Hills by-elections, expressing confidence that the party will secure a clear victory.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, he said the recently concluded PCC and PAC meetings were successful in finalising strategies for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections and by-polls.
Goud reiterated Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s stance, saying the Congress is ready to compare its 18-month rule with the ten-year rule of the BRS, which he described as riddled with failures.
He stressed that the Congress era has proven to be a "golden period," particularly for farmers, citing the Rs 9,000 crore deposited into farmers' accounts within nine days under the Rythu Bharosa scheme as a landmark achievement.
He stated that the local body elections in the state would be held as per the Court's verdict and reaffirmed the Congress party’s commitment to implementing reservations for the Backward
Classes (BCs).
He criticized the silence of BJP leaders on the BC reservation issue and said the Congress is determined to give BCs their due political representation.
A final decision on BC reservations in local elections will be taken soon, he added.
Targeting opposition parties, Goud lashed out at BRS MLC K Kavitha for her remarks on women's empowerment, saying it is shameful for her to speak on the issue given her party's track record.
He also condemned BJP Rajya Sabha MP R Krishnaiah for supporting Kavitha, questioning his stance on BC welfare.
Goud accused the previous BRS government of serious lapses, including large-scale phone tapping that allegedly targeted not just film celebrities but also their own MLAs.
Calling phone tapping a “heinous act,” he said those responsible would be punished and that the Congress government would not spare anyone involved in such illegal surveillance.
He further alleged major scams under the BRS regime, including the Kaleshwaram project and other irregularities, all of which would be exposed.
He criticised BRS for its failure to complete a single major project in ten years and accused the party of spreading misinformation through social media. Goud also blamed the BJP-led Central Government for discriminating against Telangana by withholding funds and schemes due to the state.
He warned that the Congress would not remain silent if injustice continues.
