Telangana power demand hits 20,000 MW, yet no cuts: Bhatti

Suryapet (Telangana) Oct 6 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the state was maintaining uninterrupted power supply despite peak electricity demand rising to nearly 20,000 MW and a decline of around 4,000 MW in hydroelectric generation due to inadequate water availability.
Inspecting the Pulichintala hydel power station along with Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, Bhatti said the combined additional burden on the power sector had reached around 8,000 MW. He said Transco, SPDCL and NPDCL were working efficiently to ensure uninterrupted supply, including 24-hour power to domestic consumers, with thermal power being used to meet higher night-time demand.
Bhatti said all hydel projects were ready to operate at full capacity, but deficient rainfall and rising temperatures had reduced water availability. He urged people to use water judiciously, warning of possible shortages if rainfall remained below expectations.
He also said centralised kitchens were being established to provide breakfast to 27 lakh government-school students. Modern schools are being developed in 105 constituencies, with facilities planned to accommodate around 2,600 students from different communities on a single campus.
