Telangana: Rich tributes paid to Damodaram Sanjeevaiah on his death anniversary

Hyderabad, May 7 (UNI) The 53rd death anniversary of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Damodaram Sanjeevaiah was observed with great reverence and grandeur under the auspices of V Hanumantha Rao, Chairman of the Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Trust.

The commemorative event witnessed the participation of several prominent leaders and public representatives who gathered to pay homage to the late leader’s enduring legacy.

As part of the observance, tributes were paid to the statue of Damodaram Sanjeevaiah located in front of LB Stadium, followed by a ceremonial homage at the Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Ghat.

Chief guests included Telangana BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao, BC Commission Chairman B. Niranjan, PCC General Secretary R. Laxman Yadav, Kailash, La Yadagiri Goud, Garuganti Ramesh, Nagabhushanam, Shambhula Srikanth Goud, Adi Avinash, SC Cell Ramesh, Mahesh Raj Keshav, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Hanumantha Rao recalled the simplicity and integrity of Sanjeevaiah, noting that he rose to the post of Chief Minister despite not owning a house of his own.

He praised him as a true role model for today’s youth and a symbol of humility and service.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, addressing the gathering, hailed the Congress Party as a champion of social justice. He recalled that it was the Congress that appointed Damodaram Sanjeevaiah—a poor Dalit—as the AICC President, demonstrating the party’s commitment to inclusivity.

Prabhakar described Sanjeevaiah as a disciplined and principled leader whose life and contributions remain a guiding force. He announced plans to write to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, requesting that Kurnool district be renamed after Damodaram Sanjeevaiah in recognition of his services.
He further stated that a similar appeal would be made through the Telangana Chief Minister to honour the late leader’s legacy.

The event emphasised the need to carry forward the social vision and leadership that Damodaram Sanjeevaiah exemplified, especially as a key figure associated with the united Andhra Pradesh and his native Kurnool district.
