Telangana: RTC union elections should be free of political interference: Kunamneni

Hyderabad, Sep 27 (UNI) CPI Telangana State Secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao on Sunday demanded that the RTC recognised union elections be conducted freely and democratically without political interference.
He expressed confidence that the RTC Employees’ Union, backed by AITUC, would win the elections with the support of workers.
Addressing a press conference at Makhdoom Bhavan in Himayatnagar, Kunamneni alleged that the ruling Congress was sidelining its affiliated INTUC union while extending support to the Telangana Workers union (TWU).
He criticised the reported involvement of ministers in campaigning against the Employees’ union and termed such interference unfair.
He said political parties should contest through their respective unions and leave the final decision to RTC workers.
Referring to the Singareni union elections, he cautioned against turning the RTC elections into another political battleground.
Kunamneni recalled the struggles and sacrifices of AITUC and other unions in securing the right to hold recognised union elections in the RTC.
He said the contribution of workers who fought for their rights should not be forgotten and asserted that the Employees’ union would continue its fight for RTC workers’ issues.
Employees’ union State President S Babu and General Secretary Eiduru Venkanna alleged unfair practices in the elections, including the allocation of a symbol previously assigned to another union. They announced a protest before the Labour Commissioner’s office on Monday against the issue.
Kunamneni said the workers would ultimately decide the outcome of the elections and asserted that the “Red Flag” would emerge victorious.
