Telangana to establish exclusive ‘Space City’ at Bharat Future City: IT Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad, Nov 5 (UNI) Telangana government will establish an exclusive Space City at the upcoming Bharat Future City near Hyderabad to provide incubation, research and advanced technology facilities for space technology companies, State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating Cosmoserve Space's Base 1, India's first integrated space debris removal facility, here, he said the proposed Space City would provide the necessary ecosystem and infrastructure to support space technology startups and industries.
He said the government was also planning to introduce a dedicated ‘Space Technology Policy’ within a year to promote investments, innovation and collaboration in the sector.
While space policy came under the purview of the Centre, the state would formulate its own Space Tech Policy to facilitate the growth of the industry, he said.
Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad and Telangana had a strong talent pool, advanced physical and digital infrastructure and an investor-friendly ecosystem to attract space technology companies.
The government was also focusing on developing skilled manpower through the Young India Skills University, an industry-led institution where industry leaders would partner with academia to identify skill requirements, train candidates and recruit them, he said. The Space technology would be introduced as the 34th skill vertical, in addition to the existing 33 sectors.
Referring to the growing number of satellites expected to be deployed in orbit over the next decade, he said India would require a large skilled workforce in space technology, research, simulation laboratories and allied areas.
The Minister said Hyderabad, already recognised for its IT, pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors, was emerging as a centre for defence and aerospace industries.
Defence exports had grown by over 103 per cent during the last two years, reflecting the expansion of the sector in the state, he said.
With nearly 50 research laboratories and a strong industrial ecosystem, Hyderabad had the potential to expand its presence in emerging technology sectors, including space technology, he added.
Appreciating the Cosmoserve Space team for developing indigenous technology for removing space debris, Sridhar Babu said the initiative involved a combination of science, engineering, mathematics, physics, quantum computing and artificial intelligence.
He expressed concern over the growing volume of space debris and the challenges involved in tracking objects travelling at speeds of around 27,000 km per hour, stressing the need for advanced technologies to prevent collisions and ensure the safety of satellites.
The Minister called upon industry leaders, scientists and entrepreneurs to collaborate with the state government and contribute their expertise to position Hyderabad and Telangana on the global space technology map.
